NEWS ALERT: Construction crew causes Wolfpit Rd. Main gas break

WILTON, Connecticut: Monday, May 20, 2024, 4:00 p.m — Construction crew working on the corner of Wolfpit Rd. and Horseshoe Rd. struck an 8-inch Eversource gas line shortly after noon Monday. Wilton Fire and Police Department responded by closing adjacent roads and creating a perimeter around the area closed to all vehicular traffic.

According to Wilton Police Lt. Anna Tornello“adjacent road closures were necessary to implement safety measures until Eversource arrived on scene and took over repairs.”

School buses were delayed and rerouted to afternoon routes. Wilton police posted on Facebook that there was “no threat to students at Miller-Driscoll (School).”

Tornello said roads would remain closed until repairs were completed, which she expected to be later Monday evening.

The Wolfpit has been closed from Rte. 7/Danbury Rd. to Belden Hill Rd. Additionally, access from Horseshoe Rd./River Rd. has been blocked. intersection and on Range Rd., which was closed from Wolfpit Rd. to Dr. McFadden

Residents living in the closed traffic zone were told that only pedestrian traffic was allowed.

Photos shared by Wilton Police on social media show construction crews with vehicles marked as: NY-Conna Danbury-based electrical contracting company that, according to its website, specializes in commercial, industrial and traffic signal work, among others. UPDATE (17:45) Tornello said GMW residents of the area will have access to their homes, “albeit with some detours.” The gas was cut off until repairs were made.
